The Dufort family has been in the coffee industry since the
1900’s. The “Jacques A. Dufort & Co.” was a very well respected
name in the coffee/cocoa commodity market. It was mainly known
for its green coffee exports towards European countries such as,
France, Italy and Switzerland. In 1970, Jacques Dufort decided
to get into the roasted coffee business and purchased the first
industrial coffee roasting company in Haiti from the Reinbold
family. Soon after, the Reinbold name was put aside and the
REBO franchise was born.
In 1974, REBO looked for new opportunities and began exporting
towards the American market. The Haitian green beans were
roasted, packed in huge bags and sent overseas to be
distributed. At that time, REBO’s operations were split between
Haiti and the United States, targeting the Haitian communities
in Florida, Chicago and New-York. However with time, these
activities progressively ceased. At this point, Jacques A.
Dufort was able to concentrate more on the Haitian market
promoting the brand to become the prominent name we know now.
